Wednesday Web 2.0 Tools

Hi all.

It has been a bit of a lapse since I posted, but I will make up for it today !

First of all, this posting is about the weekly Web 2.0 tool that I introduce to the Credenda staff on Wednesday Mornings.

Each week, I present a handy little tool that can impact your teaching, student learning or even your own organizational and personal development. These "nuggets" as Vince calls them, are meant to be things you may wish to jump to that day and try.

These tools can be as simple as something which allows you to take any file - word processing document, audio clip, PowerPoint file, and many more types - and have it turn into a webpage. You can then simply email the link to your contacts, as opposed to the actual file.

Below is the list. Again, I have used Embeditin to present the document - this time, as a thumbnail of the page.

Click on the miniature page and it will open up to allow you to access the links, zoom to view or print or download the document in its original form.

Great tool, hey ?

Enjoy !

Cheers.

Posting Documents in a Blog

Hi all.

I just found a site that allows you to put documents into a webpage (or blog) relatively easily.

This is a PDF document of links that I used in Monday's presentation.

The site is called Embeditin and here is the link http://embedit.in/

My podcast

And here I am podcasting !

Here is an example of a podcast that I created. Here are the steps.

The process began by me recording my voice in a program called Audacity, which is a free audio recorder and editor. I recorded what I wanted to say and saved it as an MP3 file.

From there, I went to a site called GCast where I signed up and followed the instructions on how to create my own podcast.

Once it was created, I found the Embed code and copied it. I then came back here to my Blog and pasted the embed code right into this posting editor window, right below here ! VOILA !

The topic is "How to Use RSS Feeds"

Finding Blogs

There are several ways that you can find blogs that are of interest to you.

You may be forwarded a link to a blog, for example, in an email.

You may find a link to a blog on another webpage or another blog.

You can search for blogs based on topics that interest you.

Here are 2 blog search tools:
  1. http://blogsearch.google.ca

  2. http://technorati.com/
Try either (or both) out and see what comes up !

Cheers.
